Academic Bio sketch (see here CV; en castellano:CV)

After finishing my high school education at Liceo Coeducacional de Quilpué, I entered Universidad de Chile where I obtained the undergraduate degree “Licenciado en Física” in the Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de Chile in 1985. In 1991 I began postgraduate studies at P. Universidad Católica de Chile, obtaining a Master’s degree in 1993 and a PhD in Physics in 1997, supported by a Conicyt fellowship. My PhD thesis, entitled “Amorphous solids and solid state amorphization: a Molecular Dynamics Study”, was conducted at PUC in Santiago and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge under professors Miguel Kiwi (PUC) and Priya Vashishta (LSU). After that, I spent two years at the Condensed Matter Theory Group (Borje Johansson group) at Uppsala University in Sweden, as a Postdoctoral Fellow supported by the Faculty of Science and Technology of Uppsala University. Later, I returned to Chile, where I worked at Universidad de Santiago (USACH) as an Associate Researcher.

In 2004 I moved to the Department of Physics in the Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de Chile, where now I am an Associate Professor, doing research in Computational materials science, teaching at both under- and post-graduate level, and collaborating in outreach. Also, I am Associated Member of the ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research in Brazil and recently I have been appointed Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Elsevier Journal Materials Discovery.

In addition, I have served as President of the Chilean Nuclear Energy Commission and as consultant in energy, environment & labor issues of ILO. Currently, I am member of the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Environment in representation of CUT (Chilean Workers Union) and elected member of the Faculty of Science's Council, U. Chile.

Also, I have been elected President of the Sociedad Chilena de Física (Chilean Physical Society) www.sochifi.cl , for the term 2015-2017.
